“V-ROCK FESTIVAL’11” in Saitama

Visual-kei music festival, “V-ROCK FESTIVAL’11” will be held at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama on October 23, 2011.

Visual-kei is a Japanese music genre related to rock, punk and metal, and involving flamboyant, androgynous costumes and make-up. In Japan, there are successful visual-kei bands that top major music charts, and the popularity of visual-kei has been expanding outside of Japan in recent years; they are touring the world.

The representative director of the promoter Backstage Project said the popularity of Japanese anime is tied to the popularity of visual-kei artists, who are androgynous and their slim bodies remind the fans of anime characters. Having slim body used to be considered as a weak point but it turned to be a strong point.

It turned to be cool. (Oricon Biz Online)
