 This is a traditional Japanese New Year decoration, “Kagami mochi” ornament. 
Kagami mochi usually consists of two round mochi (rice cakes),
the smaller placed atop the larger, and a daidai 
(a Japanese bitter orange) with an attached leaf on top.
