It seems this was the first time to see Night Owatari for Miki, the photographer.
People take inadama or the spirit of rice (a willow, sacred sake or a sheaf of rice) and a wand with hemp and paper streamers with them (belief in the rice spirit).
Taken on the eve of the Autumn Festival of Itoi Shrine at Kawanishi-cho, Shiki-gun, Nara.
