TONKATSU — Japanese Deep Fried Pork Cutlet

tonkatsu

Tonkatsu
is a deep fried pork cutlet, and it’s one of the most popular dishes in Japan.

This is how it looks!!

Katsu” in tonkatsu means cutlet but “katsu” also means “win”, so when there is a competition or exam Japanese eats tonkatsu.

Tonkatsu is usually served with tonkatsu sauce which is like sour version of teriyaki sauce.

It’s also served with curry (katsu curry) or cooked with egg and put on rice (katsudon).

Making tonkatu is simple. You need thin cut pork (any part), eggs, flour, and bread crumbs.

See the tonkatsu recipe.

Tonkatsu sandwich is so good; only you do is just sand tonkatsu with 2 pieces of bread.
