Located about 50 kilometers east of central Tokyo, Sakura city of [W:Chiba Prefecture], used to have Sakura castle, and there are still vestiges of the castle town in the area. Surrounded by greens, three buke-yashiki (samurai residences) where the samurai classes live were reconstructed; former Kawahara family residence, former Tajima family residence, and former Takei family residence.

The oldest one among the three is the Kawahara residence, which was build before 1845.

The furnishings and equipments used that era are exhibited in the houses, so that the visitors can see the lifestyle of the samurai class. Buke-yashiki are simple and not as fancy as castles, but interesting places to visit for those who like samurai.

The admission fee for the three residences is 210 yen (US$2.50). Opens from 9am to 5pm, closed on Mondays (when it’s a national holiday, the next day will be closed instead) and the New Year’s holiday.
